HANOVER, NH - For the 30th fall in a row, the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College presents "Telluride at Dartmouth"-six films straight from the famed Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, which takes place each year over Labor Day and is considered one of the premier arts events in the United States.
"Telluride at Dartmouth" runs Friday, September 18, through Thursday, September 24. All shows are in Spaulding Auditorium. The films to be shown are He Named Me Malala, Spotlight, Suffragette, Ixcanul Volcano, Rams, and 45 Years. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 9.
Titles were kept secret until September 4th by agreement with the Colorado festival, which keeps its own film lineup a secret until the festival itself-relying
on ticket buyers to trust that what the festival brings in will be worthy of their interest.
Each year, hundreds of cinema lovers flock to Telluride, CO, a tiny mountain town to immerse themselves in a three-day celebration of film. The festival consistently presents a remarkable and diverse slate: the rare and unknown, restored gems, retrospectives and the latest (and greatest) from the upcoming season. The New York Times calls Telluride "the smallest, most original, and most stimulating of the major festivals."
Telluride at Dartmouth was born 30 years ago through a long-standing relationship between the Festival and College (Bill Pence, director of the Hopkins Center Film, helped start the Colorado festival). Each year, six films come directly from Colorado for special advance screenings at the Hopkins Center. This is a unique opportunity for the Upper Valley community to get a sneak peek at the latest international films-often months before they're released. In recent years, these have included such Oscar fodder as The King's Speech, The Imitation Game and Wild. Like the Colorado festival, the Hop mixes these star vehicles with significant documentaries and foreign films.
Passes to all six films are $60, or $30 for Dartmouth students, and allow for priority seating and a choice of screening times; and tickets to individual films are $12, $6 for Dartmouth students. In addition to admission to all six films, the Telluride Pass provides priority seating and the holder's choice of screening times.
Passes and ticket sales begin Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 8am online (
hop.dartmouth.edu) and at 10am by phone 603.646.2422 or in person at the Hopkins Center Box. All shows in Spaulding Auditorium. Doors open 30 minutes before show time for pass holders. Individual ticket holders will be seated approximately 10 minutes before show time.
