Errol, NH

Just 30 minutes north of Berlin is the town of Errol. Often overshadowed by the more tourist-driven areas just to the south, Errol offers great beauty and many surprises. Some of the best fishing and boating in the state is to be found here. The Androscoggin River winds peacefully, and then rages with white water through this region.

The Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge sits adjacent to the Thirteen Mile Woods, acquired through a federal, state, and local partnership that was finalized just a few years ago in 2005.

The Thirteen Mile Woods is a real gem for New England travelers. In fact, travelguideofamerica.com in their "Scenic Drives of America" section has this to say: The far north region of New Hampshire is an area of haunting beauty, and perhaps nowhere is this more evident than in the Thirteen Mile Woods, a beautiful stretch of land between Errol and Berlin.

Dining choices include the Log Haven Restaurant, on Route 26 (Millsfield), which provides healthy portions of homemade food. This is a favorite of people who are hungry after a long day on the trail. The Northern Exposure, 12 Main Street, offers pub-style meals. The Bull Moose, 388 Route 26, offers pub fare and heartier fare, such as prime rib.

Lodging in Errol includes the small, but highly rated (and affordable) Errol Motel on Route 26. The larger Akers Pond Inn, 820 Colebrook Road, offers a variety of room types. Bed & breakfast fans will be pleased to find 150 Main Street lodging on the Androscoggin. A Peace of Heaven Bed and Breakfast, 601 US Route 26 (Millsfield), is famous for its lovely scenery and tasty breakfasts.

There are numerous campgrounds in Errol.

With its unspoiled land, breathtaking drives and outdoor activities, Errol could become your secret spot.
