David Myles Bringing Rockabilly Pop to Lancaster

Performance set for February 16th.

Lancaster, NH - Get ready to rock your socks off to one of the top Canadian musicians on the tour circuit today, New Brunswick's own David Myles. David and his band will be making a trip to the states on Wednesday, Feb. 21, when he brings his inimitable style to the Rialto Theatre in downtown Lancaster.

"We are thrilled to be able to have Dave take this side trip off his busy Quebec tour to share some of his musical magic with our North Country audience," said Charlie Jordan, President of the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts, presenters of the show. "Anyone who has spent time in the Canadian Maritimes knows just how much in demand Dave and his band is."

As one reviewer said recently, "It's obvious at the outset thatDavid Myles to perform at the Rialto Theatre. David Myles is one cool crooner. Stylish and sophisticated, he's literally got all the right moves. Nevertheless, 10 albums on, he wisely avoids being typecast, switching his groove whenever there's an opportunity to delve into a different direction. Consequently, while he may seem as if he's aiming for an Elvis persona on opener "Night & Day" given its mix of rockabilly and rhumba-like rhythms, by the time he's three songs in, he switches his approach entirely. Indeed, it's evident that this Canadian crowd-pleaser has any number of tricks up his well appointed sleeve."

Nattily dressed in a suit and tie, wearing his trademark specs, he looks like Buddy Holly transposed to an after-hours supper club. But Myles's music conveys a populist appeal that leaves no one lacking.

Rock 'n' roll's diverse, electrifying roots dig deep into David Myles' 10th album, "Real Love." You can hear them in the old-school Johnny Cash shuffle and lightning-in-a-bottle twang of "Night & Day." They pull you by the hand and dance slowly to the swingy drums and '50s-era, Roy Orbison croon of "Easy." With the rousing orchestral thrill of "Night After Night," they sprawl out into simmering soul as Myles seethes at a lover who's been running around with another. When you hear the shuffling hip-swivel of "Cry, Cry, Cry," it's clear that Myles was built to write. Since before competing in a lip-sync contest at seven-years-old by faux-belting "Heartbreak Hotel," he's been honing his skills, learning his way around the clash of country and R&B Elvis shook the world with in 1956. His tendency to mix lush arrangements and danceable rhythms with timeless Rock 'n' Roll structures has led some to describe David Myles' Road Show to be something akin to "Elvis in Motown." It's easy to see why on the tambourine dance floor dream of the title track or the soulful, lonesome balladry of "Crazy To Leave," a tune that re-confirms the magnetic Myles' status as an unrivalled romantic.

"David Myles will be ready to rock and croon his way into the hearts of many new fans when he takes to the Rialto stage at 7 p.m.," Jordan said.

Tickets are $15 and available at the Rialto Theatre, 80 Main St., in Lancaster, Fiddleheads, 110 Main St., Colebrook, online at www.gnwca.org or at the door.
