20 Individuals apprehended among 4 separate incidents.

SWANTON, VT - U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Swanton Sector arrested 20 individuals for entering the country illegally over the past weekend in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

"The men and women of the United States Border Patrol work diligently to protect the border and keep our community safe," said Acting Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia. "Our border security efforts and enforcement of our nation's laws doesn't stop on holidays, and this past Easter weekend resulted in the apprehension of several individuals attempting to enter the country illegally."

In the early morning hours of March 30, agents from the Champlain Border Patrol Station located nine individuals who had just illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near the West Service Road in Champlain, N.Y. All the individuals are citizens of Haiti with no immigration documents that would allow them to legally enter or remain in the United States. Agents apprehended all nine individuals and transported them to the Champlain Station for processing.

The next day, agents from the Newport Border Patrol Station apprehended eight individuals after they illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near the North Derby Road in Newport, Vt. Seven of the individuals are citizens of Romania and one is a citizen of Germany. None of the individuals have immigration documents that would allow them to legally enter or remain in the United States. Agents apprehended all eight individuals and transported them to the Newport Station for processing.

On the morning of April 1, agents from the Richford Border Patrol Station apprehended a citizen of Guatemala after he illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near Franklin, Vt. and attempted to abscond into the United States on a bicycle. Agents transported him to the Richford Station for processing. Later in the day, agents from the Beecher Falls Border Patrol Station apprehended two more citizens of Guatemala who did not have immigration documents allowing them to enter or remain in the U.S. near Pittsburg, N.H.

All of the apprehended individuals were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for removal proceedings.

The Swanton Sector is responsible for securing the land border between ports of entry in Vermont, New Hampshire and northeastern New York. The coordination with assistance of citizens is invaluable to the Border Patrol's border security mission and we welcome community members' help to keep our nation's borders safe. Please report suspicious activity at 1-800-689-3362.
