Fryeburg, Maine - Every day, young students at
Mountain Top Music Center and
Fryeburg Academy attend lessons and rehearsals, practice instruments, and work hard toward achieving great musical heights. On Saturday, March 3, at 7:30 pm in the Music Building (located on Bradley Street in Fryeburg, next to the performing arts center) at Fryeburg Academy, some of the most advanced students from each school will present a "Top of the Mountain" concert to showcase their recent accomplishments for the valley's enjoyment.
Mountain Top Music Center's "Top of the Mountain" program, undertaken in collaboration with the Fryeburg Academy Music Department, is in its second year, and this special combined concert will focus on the achievements of students ages 10-18. Depicting a wide variety of musical genres, the program features two rock bands performing rock and roll treasures that include
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around, Runaway Train, Don't You Forget About Me, Werewolves of London, and
The Eye of the Tiger. The audience will also be treated to the first movement from Vivaldi's Summer, Debussy's
Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum, and the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. In addition there will be a horn and piano duet and a piano arrangement of movie music by Joe Hisaishi from the film "Kiki's Delivery Service." Three students who have focused on very different genres: classical piano, rock and roll, and jazz, will combine efforts to present a selection from the musical Hamilton.
Students prepared their pieces in master classes, and received coaching from respected members of the area's music scene. Performers include Jett McCarthy, drums and voice; Maisie Brown, piano; Minnie Brown, piano; Eli Schor, violin; Giselle Bennett, viola; Brianna Hargraves, violin; Brooke Hargraves, piano; Logan Violette, violin; Finn Simpson, guitar and voice; Eric Schandor, guitar and voice; Addison Schwarz, piano; Faith Mitchell, piano; Willow Carter, piano and voice; Hannah Dutton, violin; Sasha Maguire, piano; SunMi Park, classical guitar; Kitty Zhang, piano; Gwen Boros, horn; Darran Damai, classical guitar.
